After more than two years of efforts and with the support of the Ministère de la Famille, the Secrétariat aux aînés and the MRC d'Argenteuil, families and seniors will finally have the chance to learn more about the action plan derived directly from their needs and the ideas expressed during various public consultations. This policy will consolidate a number of actions such as introducing a municipal recreation program, increasing the number of activities for seniors and families at the municipal libraries and continuing to support the development of alternative food security measures for families and seniors living below the low-income threshold, to name just a few.

Smoke alarms are required on every floor, including in basements, and must be checked to ensure that they are in good working order. Smoke alarms must be installed between rooms and the rest of the floor or in hallways. Batteries should be changed every six months. You may choose to use the time changes as your reminder to change your smoke alarm battery.
Have you tested yours? If not, take a few seconds to do so, and spend a few cents on new batteries. They could save your life!
Legislation requiring the installation of at least one smoke alarm
Installing a smoke alarm alone is not sufficient to ensure your protection: it is also necessary to ensure that it is maintained and in good working order, as specified in the wording of the future legislation on the requirement to install a smoke alarm.
A poorly maintained smoke alarm can go off at the wrong time, late or not at all!
Regularly test your smoke detector
Once a month, press the "test" button on your smoke detector to check whether it is operating properly.
The signal should be heard immediately.
You can use the smoke of a candle that has just been blown out to simulate a detection and a trigger, or if there is a smoker in the house, you can use the smoke from the cigarette.
The alarm should sound for approximately one minute, after which the alarm will turn off by itself.
This test should be done every year or when the family has been away from home for more than seven days.
As soon as the alarm goes off, brush away the smoke to spare the battery.
Clean your smoke alarm
In order to eliminate dust particles and guarantee maximum protection, vacuum the alarm's lateral openings, or pass a soft brush over them, and clean the outside of the casing with a damp sponge or cloth.
It is recommended that this be done twice a year. This can be done more frequently if the room is dusty.
If it is not connected to a power circuit, the battery should be changed annually.
In order to remember to make this change, choose a family member's birthday or a season or time change.
Replace the battery when the alarm goes off intermittently, because this means that the battery is running low.
Replace your alarm every 10 years
Smoke detectors have to be replaced at least every ten years. Check the packaging for its expected lifespan.
Make a note of this information, including the installation date, and keep it with your home insurance papers, for example, for easy reference if necessary.
Carbon monoxide is a toxic gas that is responsible for several cases of intoxication every year.
Carbon monoxide intoxication can have irreversible consequences and can even lead to death.
Contrary to many other gases, carbon monoxide is invisible and odourless. It does not irritate the eyes or the respiratory tract.
Only a carbon monoxide detector can alert you to its presence.
Owners are responsible for ensuring that chimneys are swept annually.
Most kitchen fires are caused by frying foods – never leave cooking food unsupervised.
Under the fire safety cover plan, the fire department will conduct preventive visits to make recommendations and collect data to identify the potential risk in every residence and business in the territory. These measures are aimed at facilitating the work of intervention teams in case an alarm is triggered.
Each visit involves a team of two firefighters. If nobody is home when they stop by, a document will be left indicating how to contact us to make an appointment.
Before lighting an open air fire, you will need a burning permit from the Director of Public Safety at 1754 Route 148.
Please note that a new burning by-law has been passed, and from now on every open fire requires a permit, regardless of the time of year, and the area will be checked ahead of time. This is supported by the SOPFEU.

Voilà! is only as good as its users. The more it is used to report the same problem, the more likely the municipality is to be quickly informed and able to take the necessary measures to repair it.

Identify its location. Pinpoint it on the map by geolocation, or enter the civic address closest to the problem.
Take a photo of it. Select the nature of the problem from preset list, add a description, and take a photo.

The Master Plan is in fact a spatial organization concept that represents in a schematic way the main territorial components that have a structuring role in planning, in response to the development and planning issues, orientations and objectives and the interrelationships among them.
The planning advisory committee (CCU) is an organization that is mandated by the municipal council to provide advice on planning and land use applications that have been submitted to it.
Purpose
The CCU is a working group comprising at least one member of the municipal council and residents it selects to guide and support its planning actions.
The CCU's recommendations and advice enable the municipal council to make the most of the contributions of elected officials and residents who can share the benefits of their life experiences in the Municipality and their particular concerns for the development of their territory. A CCU provides the opportunity to bring residents closer to urban planning issues.
In some cases, elected officials and residents can also provide specific expertise or reflect the interests of certain socio-economic groups that are interested in commercial development, environmental protection, heritage conservation, etc.

This section is an overview of the By-Laws governing the rules of good neighbourliness in the Municipality, and other practical information. Most of it consists of summarized and simplified extracts. Consequently, in the event of any discrepancy between these summarized excerpts and the contents of the Municipal By-Laws, the text that was approved and that is in force takes precedence. The official By-Laws can be consulted at the municipal offices during business hours.
A person who breaches any of the By-Law provisions may be charged.
Temporary car shelters may be put up no earlier than October 1 and taken down no later than April 30.
Where a construction permit has been obtained for a new construction on a property, there must be at least one tree per 250 square metres of surface area. If this ratio cannot be met with trees that are currently standing, trees must be planted, and this within 18 months after any trees have been cut down. Trees may not be cut down without a permit (no charge).
Any dog housed within the municipal boundaries requires a licence. Dog licences are $15 annually, and can be obtained directly from the municipality.
The maximum number of pets that can be kept on a property is three (3) dogs and two (2) cats. It is an offence to exceed these limits.
Any dog that barks or howls continuously or for long periods of time in a manner that disturbs the peace of a neighbourhood is deemed to be a nuisance, and its owner or guardian is deemed to be committing an offence. Do not allow your dog to disturb the peace among neighbours.
Dogs must be kept within the boundaries of your property. When they are being walked, they must be kept on a leash. It is prohibited to let dogs roam loose on streets, sidewalks or on private/public properties. Dogs running loose may be picked up and impounded. No dog may be left on a vacant lot.
Out of respect for the environment and people, always pick up your pet's droppings on public or private property.
Grass and brush must be mowed regularly. Any brush and grass left to grow as high as 30 cm constitutes a nuisance, and is thereby prohibited, whether on vacant land or otherwise, when such land is within 30.5 metres of a neighbouring building.
Keeping properties clean and well-maintained is everyone's business. Most residents in the municipality are diligent about looking after their properties, and like to keep their trees, lawns and flower beds nice and healthy. However, when litter is scattered over a property, it is visually offensive and degrading, and is considered a nuisance to the neighbourhood.
Harmful materials:
Stagnant water, demolition debris, scrap metal, garbage, empty bottles, abandoned vehicles, high grass, tires, etc.
Trailers are not permitted on vacant lots in the municipality. However, a trailer or a mobile home that is passing through may be parked for up to 14 days on a property that has a principal building. This authorization is only given once a year. Naturally, the owners of a main building may park their trailer on their property.
The owner of a property located next to a waterway, lake, river or a flood zone must check with the land use inspectors in the Town Planning Department before undertaking any construction, renovation or property development work to ensure that it complies with the rules established by Quebec's Ministère de l'Environnement.
Any noise that could disrupt the peace, comfort and rest of residents is prohibited between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.

In Quebec, the responsibility for protecting people and property in the event of a disaster falls primarily on municipalities. The purpose of this message is to inform you that our municipality is developing its emergency preparedness plan in case a disaster should occur on our territory. The implementation of this plan was among the actions introduced by our Emergency Preparedness Department to ensure the safety of residents and their property.
In order to familiarize ourselves with our local resources, but especially to get better organized in case of need, we will prepare an inventory of the resources within our territory, and we will try to recruit residents who would be interested in joining our emergency response team in case of a major disaster. It has been a year since we were elected.It now makes a year since the new council is at work.2023 is already here and projects are still filling up on our agenda: road repairs; replacement of culverts; garage space for Public Works; needs analysis at the Calumet fire station; Paul-Bougie Park development project; affordable housing project; collection and processing of putrescible materials; recruitment, training and especially retention of personnel; grant applications; development of the Chutes-de-la-Rouge campground; cultural activities; mining development; industrial park; and other economic and environmental issues. So many topics that kept us busy in 2022 and will keep us busy in 2023.
Our financial situation is sound and we will make sure to keep it sound. We will see to offering you a maximum of quality services and optimizing every dollar spent. We are aware that the economic situation can be difficult for some and that not everyone is affected equally by inflation. This is why we have done everything to keep the tax rate as low as possible and to take into account the increases in the value recorded for properties in the new property assessment roll.

The municipality of Grenville-sur-la-Rouge is located in the Argenteuil regional county municipality of the Laurentides administrative region, in the province of Quebec. It covers a 329 km2 territory, and is divided into two districts: Pointe-au-Chêne and Calumet. The municipality currently has close to 3000 residents.
Grenville-sur-la-Rouge is on the north shore of the Outaouais River. The unique features of its geography are the Laurentian foothills and its extensive bodies of water. The name
The municipality's name comes from the former county of Grenville, one of the two municipalities that was merged into the current one, and the name of the Rivière Rouge, which crosses the municipality from north to south. The name Grenville was chosen to honour the memory of George Grenville, a British politician. The origin of the river's name is uncertain, but most likely due to the water's reddish tint due to oxidation of the iron in the river bed. The municipality was created in 2002 through the merger of the municipality of Calumet and the county of Grenville.
The Rivière Rouge and the area's development
From the First Nations to the explorers of New France, from the coureurs des bois to the establishment of the colonies, the Rivière Rouge and the Outaouais River shaped our area's development. Before the French arrived in America, the Rivière Rouge was part of the Algonquin territory, and was known as the river of the Great Spirit. In the early days of the American Indians and the French presence in the area, the Ottawa River was one of the main communication routes inland, and one of the key commercial routes of New France.
In the first half of the 19th century, the Hamilton brothers from Hawkesbury controlled a large portion of the forests in Grenville County and the Rivière Rouge valley.
Given its strategic importance under the French regime, which was amplified by its historical significance during the fur trading period, and regenerated through forestry, the Rivière Rouge is one of those symbolic spots whose potential has been one of the pivotal levers in the region's socioeconomic development.

When pesticides are applied, the environment, including the water, air or earth, may get contaminated by these substances. They can have a harmful effect on organisms that are not targeted, including on human beings. This is why many countries have passed laws to control the sale and use of these products.
In Canada, pesticides are jointly governed by the federal, provincial/territorial and municipal authorities. The federal government controls the certification, marketing and labeling of pesticides. The provinces and territories can regulate the sale, use, storage, transportation and elimination of pesticides certified by the federal government. They also have the power to restrict or prohibit the use of certified products in their area of jurisdiction. For their part, municipalities in several provinces have the power to pass more detailed By-Laws, mainly in regard to the use of pesticides in urban areas, taking into account their special local features.
Other features included in By-Laws include initiatives focused essentially on information, awareness and the search for alternatives to the use of pesticides.
